Happy Mother's Day to me ... I Was Tommy's Mother

Happy Mother's Day to me ... I Was Tommy's Mother
By Gloria Faye Brown Bates/aka Granny Gee/@grannygee

Photos of my son, Tommy ... owned by Gloria Faye Brown Bates/aka Granny Gee.  If you see damage to any of them ... most of them survived a house fire, and I'm fortunate to still have them.

Well, I am sitting here in front of my computer thinking about Tommy.  Today is Mother's Day ...

You all are aware Tommy died May 29, 2010, soon after Mother's Day, and on Memorial Day weekend.

I was telling Skip last night that 'now' ... I am just fine.  I've coped with Tommy's death, accepted my son ... my only child is gone.  I don't cry anymore.  I am just fine.

The strange thing is ... as I said that ... a wave of emotion washed over me, making me ... remember the panicky, painful grief.  As quickly as it came, it went.

It has happened twice ... it only lasted several seconds.  It lasted just enough to disturb me.  I'm more fragile than I have been thinking.

I've been as strong as the biggest Redwood tree in the forest ... oh, have I weathered awful storms in my life.  I'm still standing.  I'm strong enough to last 'forever'.

Why does it disturb me?  Because so much of the time I can go about life, think about Tommy ... be all right.  So, how can this be happening?  I don't sit ... walk ... do things while my Heart weeps on the inside, now.  Isn't that a good thing?

I've coped with it all ... I know Tommy can't come back.  I know Tommy has died, I know ... I know ... I know.

Tommy's not coming back ... I'm not going to see his sunshine smile ... I'm not going to hear his unique, soft Tommy voice ... see him walk, do things ... ever again.

He isn't going to get a kick out of giving me one of his tools again, or something to Skip ... when he updated his own things.  He loved when making us smile.  We loved making him smile.  It's all gone, now.

My son, Tommy ... on March 16, 2007 when his only son was born.  His only son is my only grandson.  Tommy had one daughter who is my only granddaughter.  Though I can't see them, I love them very much.

He's not going to 'forget' anymore ... how when Skip told him a joke ... later in time, try to use it on Skip.  How funny that was when it happened.

Skip would pretend it was a big deal, and say, "Tommy, you are trying to use my own joke on me"!

Tommy's eyes would get big ... he would begin shaking ... his eyes would fill with such happy laughter.  His face would redden ... and he knew he was caught!  He'd try to get out of it ... he and Skip would discuss it like it was really something ... until they both were satisfied.

See ... I miss all those times ... special.  I miss having my child, my son.  I've cried many tears since May 29, 2010.

That doesn't include the pain ... the horrible knowledge of never seeing my child again.

The panic inside while trying to face it ... like walking up to a lion in defiance ... and it bite the hell out of you ... over and over ... until one day ... you reach a point, you aren't afraid anymore.

What's shocking ... is when out of the clear blue ... you think you are so strong, you have dealt with everything ... all of sudden you experience in seconds enough ... to remember being so afraid, sick to your stomach ... 'birds trying to get out of a cage' feeling.

You realize something ... I realized, know even to this day something ...

I made a statement to Skip during our conversation last night that I think 'says it all'.  The more I think about ... the more I 'already knew' ... I'm right.  At least for myself.

I can't speak for other grieving mothers ... I haven't ever discussed, or heard what they think, feel.  I'm sure not going to put my load of grief on someone who is on the road I am traveling in life ... as a grieving mother.

My statement came out before I thought about what I was saying.  As soon as I said it, I 'felt' how true it was.

"I've coped with Tommy's death.  I've put everything into place.  You know ... I can live with it now.  I don't cry anymore."

As I said that to Skip ... I felt an unexpected wave of grief briefly wash over me ... create a flutter of panic, pain that if had lasted longer ... would have brought me to my knees.

I realized something ... this was the statement I made, knew it was so true:  "I just have to keep fooling myself"... to be able to live with knowing my child is gone.

My handsome son, Tommy ...

I just have to keep fooling myself ... I can't afford to do any different.  I thought I had done a good job even to the point of being proud ... I had done all this on my own.

I didn't talk in depth to anyone ... I didn't cry in front of anyone ... I didn't share my grief with anyone in person.  I did keep a promise I made to you ... my friends, followers, readers ... I wrote my grief so you could see, feel without actually having to experience it in real life.

Why?  Because it makes a difference ... you could become closer to your own child, children.  If something happened to one of them (I pray not) ... you can at least have something inside to hold onto.

Hold onto the knowledge that you were close, you both loved each other.  I promise you this ... if your child dies, and you have good memories ... it means the very world.

I keep thinking, "Thank God, I always told Tommy I loved him".  Thank God for all the things I held onto that were good ... after his death.

Another thing ... I'm sure many of you have seen grieving mothers.  You aren't sure of what she is experiencing.  You aren't sure what to say to her, how to approach her.  You don't ... want to say the wrong thing.

The worst thing you could tell 'this grieving mother' is ... "oh, your son is in a better place"!  No hell, he isn't.  He's not in a better place ... he was here in a good place.

So, don't tell me that he's in a better place.  I don't have time to listen to that bull s___.  We all have our beliefs ... so, you can comfort yourself with that if you believe it.

It's not my cup of tea.  I don't want to hear it.  I may not ever speak to you again ... if you try to push that belief on me.

Realistically ... how in the hell do you know that?  Then again ... maybe that's one of the ways you 'fool yourself' into thinking until one day ... your own child dies.  What are you going to say, then?  See how strong you are then.  See what you'll say ... then.

You have to do what you have to do, to cope.  You have to go with your own beliefs.  I guess the best thing is not to tell a grieving mother that.

Coming through all I have, I think the safest words to tell a grieving mother are:  "I care, I'm so sorry".  I warn you though ... don't say anything unless you are sincere.

A mother who is super-sensitive, emotional can pick up on things.  When she goes through the grieving process ... I promise you, she will ... remember you.  I promise you that I have several people I remember.

One day they might get to know ... that I remember.  Things just 'have a way of biting you in the ass'.  Life is like that ... things come around ... full circle.  It is what it is.

I have always tried to face things ... head-on.  If it's going to hurt, let it hurt its worst.

I will crawl, claw my way back ... even if it knocks me to my ass again.  I will keep getting up ... because either I'm going to win ... or die.

Simple as that ... win, or die.

That's how I have dealt, coped with my child's death.  One way or the other ... I'm going to win ... whatever happens.  I just so happened to have made it.

Like the Redwood tree, I'm still standing.  Full of pain, grief hidden deep in my soul ... you don't have to see it, know it's there.

I spare anyone that ... I'd rather make you smile, be happy.  Here, where I write my pain ... you have the option of going your own way ... you don't have to read, feel my pain ... unless you want to, care to.

My son, Tommy ....

I promise you ... I will tell you 'just like it is'.  I will say it in the words I want to say ... feel it must be said ... how I feel as I write them.  You might not like it ... though I'm a most good person ... I don't always feel 'good' things.  I also, will say several choice words that aren't pretty.

I'm not perfect, I have never claimed to be.  I live ... real life.  And ... damn it, it hurts ... sometimes. It hurts sometimes, like hell.  Yes, it does.

Now ... it's time to fool myself again.  Now ... this grieving mother has faced up, coped once again that her son's not coming back ... he died.  I won't hear him speak today ... on Mother's Day.  I won't hear his laughter, see his smile.  It's all gone, whether I like it or not.

See ... sometimes, when you try to do everything in a good, positive way ... you can sound angry ... when you really aren't.  I may sound that way in some of my words, but truthfully ... I'm not.

It's my way, the only way I can face the awful things in my life.  I face up to things that I'm afraid of ... as if I'm not afraid of them.  It's my way ... even if it means dying.  I'm not going to back down from real life ... I have to live it.

It's Mother's Day once again ... everything's going to be all right.

I pray all of you mothers have the most wonderful day ... I haven't forgotten how much that means to a mother.  I got to be one for 43 years.

My son, Tommy ...

I'm grateful to have known my son, Tommy.  I won't ever forget him.  I make dragonflies in his memory.

This grieving mother makes beautiful dragonflies in memory of her son ... woven, twisted, created into being.

Love is in every twist of the golden wire I use; love reflects from my Heart in the colors of the beads I add.

I leave them in public places hoping to bring at least a little joy in someone's day ... a smile to their face, and maybe the excitement of finding something that truly is a little treasure with meaning.

Happy Mother's Day to me ... I was Tommy's mother.

This is the 5th Mother's Day since Tommy's been gone.  I really miss my son with my very Heart.  I do have to keep ... fooling myself.

I can either do that or ... die.  I have no choice ... I have my whole world to live for ... Skip, and our 2 Pups, Kissy Fairchild and Precious Camie.  Not only that ... I look forward to good things in my life.

I miss you, Son.  You meant the world to me.  I love you, Tommy.  Today ... is the day children go home to mothers.

On this day, I have my memory of my last Mother's Day, only a couple of weeks before you died.  It was special. I'm so thankful to have had you as my son.

Photos From the Past ... Just in Time for Mother's Day

Photos From the Past ... Just in Time for Mother's Day
By Gloria Faye Brown Bates/aka Granny Gee/@grannygee

The two special photos that came in the mail ... just in time for Mother's Day.  Photos of my mother that I never knew existed.  Thank-you, Linda Lou.

I received something very special in the mail.  I opened the pretty, soft sage green envelope ... took a folded, matching piece of stationery out, opened it up.

Inside were 2 photos of my mother as a young woman.  I had never seen these photos before.  I was thrilled to get photos of my mother I never knew existed.

Thank you to my cousin in Oregon for sending them to me.  You gave me a priceless gift.

I've sat here looking at the two photos ... my mother as a young woman was full of personality, and sass.  I loved her very much.

In these photos, I think she was around twenty-four years old.  Do you know what strikes me as special, strange when I look at the young photos of her?

The last time I saw my mother was in the funeral home ... she lay on the stretcher (I tried not to notice she was being embalmed) ... her hair had been freshly washed.

Her hair was so soft ... I touched my mother's hair with my hand.  I placed the palm of my hand gently on her cheek, tears flowed down on my arms.  I kissed my mother goodbye.

What struck me as special, strange ... was my mother had no stress on her face ... she looked very young ... just like her photos.  Her hair, her face ... she was beautiful as she lay there.

Tommy, and I went to view her before she was cremated.  (The funeral home guy mislead my step-father about embalming ... that was another $800-900 added to the cost of her funeral arrangements.  (Remember when cremating, normally ... embalming isn't required).

Photos from the past ... of my mother.  I never knew they existed.  Thank you very much, Linda Lou.  They mean the world to me ... I will treasure them.

Love Battles Death ... Won

Love Battles Death ... Won
By Gloria Faye Brown Bates/aka Granny Gee/@grannygee

Kissy Fairchild...
Precious Camie...
Kissy and Skip...

She lay on the cold, wet ground.  Her little body shivered from the cold wind.  No shelter ... just the shade at the edge of the woods where they left her to die.  How she longed for a loving hand to touch her, a soft voice to let her know she was cared for ... she missed being loved, petted.

No hair, only wet skin from her body fluids oozing out of her.  Maggots ate at her, urging her to go on ... die.  They had one purpose ...

She could hear the sounds of the children she used to play with.  They had forgotten her ... no way could she keep up with them in the condition her little body was in.  Besides, how can the dead ... play?

Death was reaching its hand out for her when ... she felt her little body being lifted.  She heard a cry, then only gentle words meant for her.

Photos of Precious Camo/ Camie ... demodectic mange can't be cured by home remedies ... you need to take your dog to the vet to get life-saving meds.  The bottom photo is when I finally got to hug her for the first time ... her skin had healed enough for me to hug her ... she put her little head against my chest.

***

You are mine, now.  I'm taking you home.  I'm going to make you live.  No!  Death, you can't have her!

Maggots fell, one by one ... onto the wet ground.  Wet. little small pearls that eat on dead flesh.  The woman felt them ... she didn't give a damn, any other time she would have cringed, not been able to let them touch her skin.

This was different.  This was a little puppy who had demodectic mange ... it had progressed to the point ... the little puppy looked like an alien from another world.  It can't be cured with 'home remedies' ... only a vet can make it get better, heal with medicines, shampoos.

The woman had no way of paying for such medical care for the little puppy.  She didn't give a damn ... the puppy wasn't going to die by itself ... she would be there to hold it, talk lovingly to it.  It would know love at the end of its life.

When her husband came home, he told her no matter what he had to do, he would find a way to pay for the puppy's medical care.  They took it to the local vet.

They told him their situation.  He suggested donations ...  at that very moment is when the woman said she would ask everyone in the world to help her.  She didn't let her pride stand in her way ... when normally, she would never ask for help for herself ... unless desperate.

She was going to fight for this little puppy's life ... battle Death to the very end.  She began to think of how to go about getting donations to help her.  Someone suggested an online donation fund, told her of a website to go to.  She set up a GoFundMe campaign online.

She began getting donations from people over the world ... and that's when Camie's Angel stepped in ... she donated many times.  If it hadn't been for Camie's Angel ... the woman would have never gotten all she needed for the medical care.

GoFundMe seemed to collect funds for vacations or a car for someone ... quicker than helping a puppy who needed desperate medical care.  She soon realized she couldn't depend on GoFundMe. Thankfully, Camie's Angel stepped in, began helping.

Camie's Angel... written by me.  (I hoped my 3 books would sell to make money to take care of all our Pups' medical care.  Unfortunately, that hasn't been the case.)

Camie's Angel always made the difference at the end of each crisis.Thank God for everyone who cared, thank God for Camie's Angel.  Camie's Angel became Kissy's Angel later when he needed surgery.

Thank God for Camie and Kissy's Angel, and everyone who cared enough to send money to their vet for their medical care.

The woman wanted everyone, even now ... to send their money to the Pups' vet.  She wanted people to know where their money went to.  She encouraged, and encourages anyone to this day ... to call, talk to the vet, ask questions.

The woman feels/felt that when people cared enough for her Pups, then ... they have every right to call, know what's going on.  This way, people could know their money was being used in the right way.

The woman is me, Gloria/Granny Gee/@grannygee ... Precious Camie (Precious Camo) ... is our Pup.  Kissy Fairchild is her brother.  I manage her Facebook page at:  http://Facebook.com/camocameobates

Gloria Faye Brown Bates/aka Granny Gee ... 2014

It is now, the Facebook page for both our Pups ... Precious Camie and Kissy Fairchild.  I update it every day, put photos there.  They have a lot of friends, and if you'd like ... come be their friends, also.  :)

You can see photos of Camie ... how beautiful she is now.  She is an Australian Shepherd, mixed.  Her coloring is blue merle.

Precious Camie
Mischievous Pups... Kissy and Camie
Precious Camie loves to sit on Kissy Fairchild...
Precious Camie ... her hair is absolutely beautiful, silky now...
Precious Camie ... smart girl!

Kissy is our Rottie.  He is black, mahogany.  He is a gentle giant.  Both Pups are very close. He just had surgery in March and is recovering now.  It'll take several months for him to be fully recovered. He had a torn ligament in his right leg.

I fought Death to keep Camie here.  I wanted her to know love, and a good home, good food.  She has been in our life since July 04, 2013.

Thank God for Camie ... I was grieving over my son, and couldn't come out of it.  I began caring for Camie ... fighting Death for her ... it helped to save me.  I became aware of living again.  I never knew I would ever care about living anymore.

My whole world is Camie, Kissy and Skip, my husband.  They are all I have left in this world ... I treasure them with my Heart.

This is my whole world ... Skip, Kissy, and Camie...
Kissy Fairchild...
Kissy Fairchild and Skip...

With our love, my nursing Camie ... our vet, Camie's Angel ... and the friends who contributed to Camie in money ... the friends of Camie's who constantly said prayers for her, sent healing thoughts ... Camie is still here.

She has the most beautiful, silky hair/fur.  She still has to fight ... and always will ... she will need medical care forever.  She won't do it alone, I am here.  So, is Skip and Kissy, and all her friends.

I will do what I have to ... to get money to care for her ... and Kissy, when needed.  I will ask for help when it comes to them ... and throw my pride to the wind.

Pure love, caring for our Pups ... if you ever see me ask for donations ... know that is what drives me.

Never be afraid I would badger anyone to help ... it would always be someone's decision to do so.  I would just quietly let everyone know. No one will ever know how grateful, thankful I am for all the help I've gotten.

This is a case where pure love went to battle with Death ... and won.  Camie's still here and thriving. We aren't rich in money ... but, we are very rich ... in love ... for our Pups.

Love battles Death ... won.

Happy Mother's Day To You ...

By Gloria Faye Brown Bates/aka Granny Gee
(Photos are of me, my son Tommy ... poem written by me.  Owned by Gloria Faye Brown Bates/aka Granny Gee)

I know that lady
She used to be Tommy's mother
He's gone now, gone five years

I think he died from a heart attack
I'm not sure.  I heard his mother took it bad
Tommy loved his mother, she loved him

She might not ever be right again
It may do something to her mind
You know that was her only child

Poor thing, she doesn't have more children
That's what she gets for having one child
Now, she doesn't have any ... she's motherless

Wonder what you call a woman
Who used to be a mother, no longer has children
She has nothing to show she's a mother ... anymore

No one to call her mother
No one to say, "I love you, mama"
She can never be a mother in this life

So, what's she called, now?
A used-to-be mother, motherless woman
You are no mother, now ... Mother's Day isn't for you

What does Tommy's mother do
Each year Mother's Day comes?
Since she's no longer a mother, she can't celebrate

Tommy's mother doesn't celebrate Mother's Day, now
She does give thanks that a little baby came into her life
Tommy gave her 43 years to be a mother

No longer will she be sad when Mother's Day comes
She will be wishing every other mother ... Happy Mother's Day
She will be imagining their happiness when their children come home

Tommy's mother will be happy for other mothers
Not only that, she will be praying that other mothers' children
Always be safe, live all the mother's life

Happy Mother's Day to all mothers
From someone who can't celebrate Mother's Day
Know she's thinking of you, wishing you well

Happy Mother's Day to you!

Roots Run Deep Here ...

Roots Run Deep Here ...
By Gloria Faye Brown Bates/aka Granny Gee

You are gone, I've forced myself not to think of you
The pain is too great, circumstances and all
Something bad happened that day, I wasn't there

I've had to not think of you, I can't bear the pain
In my life, nothing is ever ... normal
Family members, family life ... blood isn't thicker than water

So many deaths, so many gone
Not from natural deaths like everyday people
Drugs, crashes, suicide ... murder? or just letting one die

Question marks fill the end of a lot of sentences
Of why ... when ... what happened
People come, people go ... no one misses them anymore

No one is aware of how I feel ... I keep my feelings inside
No one knows how I loved each person who is gone today
No one gives a damn ... why would they ... I'm not close

To any one family member left in this world
Nor are they to me ... we were naturally born that way
No one can blame anyone, it's in our genes

Like baby black widow spiders, we crawl out into the world
We go our way, forming no ties
We can't ... natural instinct is to destroy the other

Sadly, some do want to form bonds, ties
The smart one knows not to even try
It can't happen ... you may as well step off into a volcano

Burning red lava, darkness where it isn't light
We each were born with a burning rage in our souls
Some went on to be consumed by it ... some learn to control

To be born in my family is to be born with a natural hate, distrust
It can't be unlearned, only pushed back so, we can love
Only our children, who are a part of us ... the only ones we can be close to

Sad, beautiful ... some try to reach out to show love
Only to have it rejected ... it's the only way
Hurt a little now ... than to be devastated in the future

There are plants with very short roots, easily pulled from the ground
Then ... there are plants with deep roots, never pulled up
Sadly ... our roots don't travel far into the soil that grows them

My roots grow deep ... only two lasting family relationships did I ever have
My mother ... my son who was a part of me ... he had deep roots
Sometimes, my mother was influenced by her secret lifestyle
Most of the time she was there for me ... others jealous of it

Constantly tried to pull her love away from me, one sister in particular
Jealousy like you've never known ... she hated, loved me
She loves me, she loves me not ... depending upon her mood

I'll stop here, there's so much more that doesn't need to be told
I wonder why, I wonder this ... I don't need to know any longer
I've completely let go when I discovered answers to many of my questions

I don't feel like I need revenge, nor need to make someone unhappy
They still live now, or have died with the knowledge of what's been done
I only need to live my life, be the best I can be

I've never been perfect, been down a lot of life's paths
It's a wonder I'm not a wicked, evil person
One would think so, from the paths in life I explored

When I saw, heard, felt things I didn't want to know
I ran the opposite way, back to where I could get off the path
Be a very good person ... I will for the rest of my life

Mother's Day ... anniversary of my son's death, both are in May
Mom died September 09, 2001 ... Tommy died May 29, 2010
I miss my mom ... I miss my son ... my love still lives on after your deaths ... roots run deep here

My son, Tommy and I were close.  He knew his mother loved him, I knew my son loved me.

Note from this author:

The deepest roots I've ever had had in my life that lasted always, no matter how often I moved, traveled ... was love.

Love for my mother, Daisy Earlene ... my only child, my son ... Tommy.  And for my Grandma Alma, George (the only grandfather I ever knew).  They also, loved me no matter what, were always there for me.

They are all gone ... love lasted forever, and more.  I'm still here, always feeling my love for them. Deep roots grow here.  I'm a strong ... plant.

My beautiful mother.  I always wanted to grow up to be beautiful like her.

My mother with my precious little brother, Rick-Rick.  All of you are gone ... Ricky died 2007, drug overdose.  No matter what, I loved him with my very Heart.  He really tried to overcome just before he died.  I'll never forget him saying to me, "it sure feels good to feel good".  He said he didn't think he'd ever know how it felt to feel like that again.  He got with ... friends who contributed to his death, soon after ... he died one night at a ... friend's house, sitting up on the couch.

Photos of my beautiful mother.  It's always said she was the prettiest woman in ... Franklin County.

Whoops, I Said it Again ... Damn!

Whoops, I Said it Again ... Damn!

Photos are of me as a little girl.  They are owned by me ... By Gloria Faye Brown Bates/aka Granny Gee/@grannygee

For the past week I have been sick with a ... damn ... cold.  That's right ... a damn cold!  I'm really wanting it to be gone, congestion and all.  Damn!

Today, I went to an appointment at 2:00 pm.  I drove in the pouring rain ... I didn't feel like driving in it.  I just wished to be home, in bed.  Of course, I hadn't been in bed before I left ... it's just while I was out driving in the pouring rain, not feeling well ... I decided I wished I was in bed.  Damn!

I reached the doctor's office, walked inside ... put my umbrella in a plastic bag so, it wouldn't drip all over the place.  Damn!  I didn't feel worth a darn.  I wished to be home.

The lady at the desk smiled at me as I walked to it.  What's your name, she asked.  I told her, and she looked for my name.

What time is your appointment she asked.  I told her.  The other lady walked over, smiling.  I liked both of them.  They checked, and told me I was a week early for my appointment ... it was for May 11th at 2:20 pm.  Damn!  I could have been home ... in bed.  I just didn't feel good at all.

I drove back home in the pouring rain.  I was surprised by how everyone was driving ... there was lots of traffic.  Everyone was driving at a safe speed ... which meant very slow.  Damn!  I wished I was home in bed.

My mama washed my mouth out when I was about 4-5 years old.  She used good old Ivory soap.  I know how it smells, how it tastes.  She was washing the word 'damn'... right out of my mouth.

She heard me say it when she walked up behind me playing with my tea set.  I had put sand in the little cup, decided to dip snuff like I saw my Grandma Alma do.  I got choked.  Damn!

To this day, that word has been part of my vocabulary.  She didn't know she didn't wash it right out of my mouth.  I wish she had.  Damn!

I'm home now, have been for a few hours ... I still haven't been to bed ... I knew I wouldn't go to bed, I just wanted to be home.  I've been saying 'damn' too much lately.  Damn!  Whoops!  I said it again ... damn!

Note by this author:  I wrote this on Friday when I was still really very sick.  I was, and am at the point where I've been sick too long ... now, it's frustrating not to be over the congestion, coughing.  So, the only thing I can say, or think is .... "damn".  It's not meant in an ugly way :)

I'm a Figure in White ...

I'm a Figure in White
By Gloria Faye Brown Bates/aka Granny Gee/@grannygee

Soft misty rose, gentle white fog swirls, caresses, kisses the petals
Petals of little wild roses living on the craggy rocks near the ocean

I reach out to touch, pluck a tiny rose when I feel a prick
Instantly pissing me off to no end, dissolving my romantic mood

The hell with all the soft, misty rose roses, right now I'm mad
I put my finger between my lips, I bite the hurt, pull it away

A perfect drop of pure red blood sat on my finger, I stared
Stared in fascination at something so pure red, perfectly formed

One little drop of blood, one perfect little red drop of blood
Blood ... life ... red is the color of life, I never thought about it before

Red is strong, vibrant ... vibrates with pure energy
One little, pure red drop of blood reminds me life is bigger than I see

One little prick draws a small drop of blood without harming me
A big ass prick would draw a huge amount of blood, disabling me

Simple as that ... just as simple as that, life is fragile
In a blink of an eye, you can be here one minute ... gone the next

The pain forgotten, fascinated by a little drop of pure red blood
I stood in the damp air, soft white fog swirled around me

I felt it kiss my face, caress my neck ... I held my arms out to the air
Embraced the soft, wispy fog, became entangled in a dance

A dance for my life ... I'm on a rocky cliff
The drop of pure red blood spun off to God knows where

As my body went into a spin ... spinning, spinning to the rocks below
Rocks met me, stopping my fall ... lots of red ... pure red began to spread

As my life drained from my body, coloring the rocks pure red
One jagged rock pricked me in a big ass way ... disabling me forever

Making me see black, feel no pain ... I began to see light
Beautiful soft, white light ... figures were moving about

I am in Heaven ...I breathe a sigh of relief as I wasn't sure where I'd go
When the day came and I would die ... I looked down at myself

The pure red has gone away ... I'm now, a white figure
I begin to move around in a contented way ... I was red, now ... I'm white

Pure white moving around in the soft light ... I'm dead
Full of life in a new way ... magical, swirling, twirling like the fog

I come down to kiss you, caress your head, your hair
Trying to tell you in my way ... everything is going to be all right

You can't see, or even know I'm there ... like the fog playing on the early morning air
Sometimes, you think you do ... then, you see only the white

You have a fleeting thought of me, then it's gone
As you watch the fog in the early morning light

Swirl, caress the petals of the wild roses, misty rose in the light
Never knowing I died here one morning, now ... I'm a figure in white

Dusted Memories ... Go Away

Dusted Memories ... Go Away
By Gloria Faye Brown Bates/aka Granny Gee/@grannygee

Dusting off memories from storage
In the back of my mind ... I take several out
To examine, look at ... to connect the dots

Connect the dots from events in my life
To tie in things to make them make sense
Too many mysteries ... takes time to connect

Many things don't seem to be related
Until ... looking very closely ... ah-hhh, there's the connection
Hints, clues pointing to where the next line is drawn

Most people have a normal life
You live each day in a good way, you raise your children
Go to church, go on vacation ... you are family-oriented

My life has never been that way
Oh, I got a little taste now and then to see
See for a very short time ... how this feels, how that felt

My life would make a very interesting movie
One I wouldn't want the world to know
Too much grief, too much pain ... too many secrets

Secrets I will carry to my grave ... never talk about
I force myself to forget ... as time goes on, I do
Until all becomes a memory, stored in my mind

Rarely, do I take certain memories out, I can't
Pain unlike you've ever experienced if you've lived a normal life
You can't ever understand ... you wouldn't believe

Experiences most women never have ... I have
Many bad things have happened in my life ... I am still here
Standing here like a Redwood Tree ... silent, strong, weather-beaten

Inside my bark, limbs, leaves are many memories
From storms gone by, storms you've never known the likes of
Here, I sit ... dusting memories off ... I wonder if I can look

Some memories go back, too painful for me to bear
Like the gold/red upholstered chest in my art room
Tommy's chest ... I want to look inside ... I can't

The light-weight lid isn't heavy ... I can't lift it
I'm not strong enough, yet ... but, I'm strong enough to pick it up
I may die of pure grief if I open it up ... there's things in there

I can't touch, I can't face ... they are in a little pastel, green box
Photos ... of my son ... laying in under the light ... in a coffin
Memory of my hand touching his head ... oh my God, the back of his head

A mother's fingers touching a place she shouldn't have found
Little hard places, what are they?  Oh my God, stitches ... a scar
From the autopsy ... I was grieving so much, I forgot

My Heart is dripping tears inside ... warning, I might drown
Drown in my own grief in front of everyone ... all you see is a smile
Never knowing what's in my mind ... my grieving mother's mind

What a happy, beautiful smile I have ... one to put you at ease
Making you know somehow, all is going to be all right
Not a care in the world ... you don't see a thing

All I do silently ... is invisible; I'm the greatest magician in the world
I can do many things in front of you, you never see
My mind is busy as it dusts the memories off ... from the past

Guess what memory this is, what that is ... oh, you can't see
I am the greatest magician, not only that ... greatest poker player
You can't see anything I do ... because I have the best poker face

I have played the cards of life ... I have won a few, lost a lot
I'm not bitter ... I've learned life's that way
Life, death, secrets will ... go with me to my grave

Life, death, secrets ... strange things that make a great movie
Can never be told, never be shared in this life
It's time to put these dusted memories back in place

Emotions, sick feeling inside ... these weren't the memories
I wanted to remember ... sometimes, it happens this way
Dusted memories ... go away
